_who: david o. wolthers_where: aa_when: 2008_what: the project is based on case studies of micro and macro organisations. the internal, autonomuos logic of the micro organisation of leaf venation is adaptable to contextual influences as well as possessing an inherent behavior. the infrastructural network and typological organisation of a city, in this case Berlin, informed an approach to an architectural project that focused on relations between local and global relations and situations.

the intention of the project is based on the theory of Assemblages introduced by Manuel Delanda. the sum-things were interested in how local mutation could occur in a global form and how decentralised and local criteria could inform global form. a set of trajectories between functionally defined points on site act as spinal chords and a component that is able to mutate according to structural and spatial criteria act as vertebrae. the internal logic of the component is influenced by the points on site and thus the project achives an emergent global form defined by local criteria.
